Today marks the 17th anniversary of the September 11th attacks that has made a seemingly irreversible impact on our lives. This impact isn’t so much from the attacks themselves but is instead the result of the government’s response to them. Of course, the militarism of the United States and much of the rest of the world is nothing new, but for those of us who promote peace and decry war, today is a day to reflect on the chaos and destruction.
I am anti-war. I am not against most wars. I am against all wars. It’s not about politics. It’s about advocating for the most basic respect for human life and dignity. It’s about actually living by what it means to be a Christian.
What a shame it is that being anti-war represents an elevated level of virtue—being against war means that you have the smallest shred of empathy for your fellow human.
Violence begets violence. It’s a vicious cycle and someone has to stand up and say “Enough.”
I’d write more, but I will defer to the The Rantin’ Arkansan who wrote a wonderful post today titled “Why I Am Anti-War.” Read it, share it, and live it.
