Vallejo police have released the video of the slaying of rapper Willie McCoy at a Taco Bell.  A Taco Bell employee called 911 to report an unresponsive person sitting in a car.  When Vallejo police arrived, they found McCoy as described, but they noticed a gun in his lap.  They drew their guns and discussed their plan of action.  He started to move, scratching himself, and then six police officers fired twenty-five bullets into him.

Willie McCoy is yet another innocent victim of the police.  He had done nothing wrong.  The Taco Bell employee who called 911 was trying to help someone he believed was in distress.  The presence of the gun on McCoy’s lap obviously complicated the situation, but other than the police, I’m not sure that anyone feels satisfied with how the situation was handled.  An innocent person was killed, so we must consider this encounter a horrible failure.
