You mentioned your budgeting software handling your emergency fund in some way. What budgeting software do you use? I haven’t found one that handles savings in bitcoin and spending in fiat, without possibly using separate budget files per currency, and even then few support Bitcoin as a real currency. Do you just track your fiat expenses and not allocate savings using the envelope method?
I used YNAB for years (I kept using the desktop version with manual inputs….I think version 4), but recently finally switched to Actual, which is a FOSS version since I’m finally going to switch my daily driver laptop to Ubuntu.
So neither software has functionality for Bitcoin, so I do everything in USD but just update the gain/loss at the beginning of the month for each account (wallet). I track the actual Bitcoin balances on on a separate Excel spreadsheet.

Nice! I’ve been a long-time user of YNAB as well, and have also been evaluating and actively contributing to Actual, hoping to fix some of the decimal place assumptions it has and eventually adding multiple currency support (to include BTC, ultimately).
Cache/Cache Flow looks interesting, but aren’t ready for day-to-day budgeting yet. Hopefully I get some traction with enhancing Actual enough to handle it, there is a lot of promise there.
